CAVA Group Sold Off on a Guide It Has Already Outrun

At $51.58 the market is paying roughly 22x forward adjusted EBITDA for a concept growing revenue at twice Chipotle's rate, with net cash equal to 7% of its market value and a unit base on track to double by 2032.

Between late April and this week, CAVA Group lost roughly 48% of its market value, ending the September 25 session at $51.58 against a 52-week high of $98.79 . Very little of what the company actually disclosed explains it.

The most recent numbers CAVA has put in front of investors — second-quarter revenue up 31.3% and same-restaurant sales up 9.0%, of which 5.3 points came from guest traffic rather than menu price — are the strongest operating print in its short public life. On September 17th, the board authorized up to $100 million of share repurchases, a first for a company that until now had routed every dollar of operating cash back into building restaurants . Between the August 11th earnings release and that authorization, CAVA disclosed nothing at all.

What CAVA is, for those who have not followed it: a founder-led Mediterranean fast-casual chain that went public in June 2023, ran 476 restaurants at the July 12 quarter end , and opened its 500th in Minneapolis on September 23th . It reports two segments. The CAVA segment — the restaurants — is the company; an "Other" segment covering consumer packaged dips and spreads plus the dressing bases used in-store contributed $6.9 million of the $806.7 million booked in the first 28 weeks of fiscal 2026 . Everything is company-operated except a handful of airports, the only licensed locations in the system , and everything is domestic. One concept, one country, and a development schedule pointing at more than 1,000 restaurants by 2032 .

My argument is that the price now embeds a demand trajectory the company's own disclosures contradict, because the market treated an arithmetic artifact in CAVA's unchanged full-year guidance as though it were a warning. At roughly 22x forward adjusted EBITDA the stock no longer requires heroics.

What it does not support is the label of a compounder at any price: the capital behind the unit build clears its cost of capital by a modest margin, not a wide one.
