Relative to Booking Holdings and Expedia, Tripadvisor’s differentiation lies in its role as a guidance and discovery platform rather than a pure booking engine. While Booking.com and Expedia dominate direct hotel bookings (with Booking’s market cap and revenues roughly 10x those of Tripadvisor)³, Tripadvisor’s influence is strongest in the research and planning phase, driving high-intent traffic to partners and advertisers⁴.
