First, BlackBerry is a preferred provider of secure communications and endpoint management for governments and regulated industries. Over 80% of Secure Communications revenue comes from government and large enterprise clients, with customer retention rates near 100% in critical products like AtHoc. BlackBerry UEM is one of the few solutions with NSA certification and is favored for on-premise deployments where data sovereignty is paramount—an area where cloud-first rivals like Microsoft and VMware are less competitive.

Second, QNX is the de facto standard for safety-critical embedded operating systems in automotive and industrial markets. QNX software is embedded in over 275 million vehicles, used by all top 10 global automakers, and powers 24 of the top 25 electric vehicle brands. Third, BlackBerry’s patent portfolio—approximately 6,300 active patents—provides both licensing income and defensive leverage. While competitors like Microsoft and Google have broader ecosystems, BlackBerry’s focus on security, compliance, and embedded reliability gives it a durable niche, especially as software-defined vehicles and IoT security become more critical.
